Romanian authorities, together with 25 travel agencies, hoteliers and other organizations in the field, went to two international fairs in Madrid and Paris, where they presented different tourist offers from Romania: cultural tours, rural tourism, city breaks, active tourism, wellness and spa tourism. Spa tourism in Romania, a national priority The development of spa tourism is a priority for Romania, an approach supported by MEDAT through the Master Plan for Investments in Tourism, but also through funding for private operators dedicated to modernizing the tourism, spa, cultural, sports and leisure infrastructure in the 38 spa and spa resorts nationwide. Romania has one-third of Europe’s mineral and thermal water resources, and the 38 spa and spa resorts are major attractions for tourists interested in health and wellness. The development of this segment is a priority for the authorities, supported by the Tourism Investment Master Plan and by programs dedicated to the modernization of tourism infrastructure. The national promotion strategy aims at participating in international fairs, providing access to key markets and generating collaborations between industry players. Les Thermalies Paris is an outstanding example, given the French market’s growing interest in spa tourism. In 2024, France ranked 8th in the ranking of countries of origin for foreign tourists visiting Romania. White balls and black balls for spa tourism Spa tourism is one of the oldest and most important sectors of the tourism industry in Romania, due to its wealth of natural resources. Its mineral waters, therapeutic muds and specific climate make Romania a privileged destination for treatments and wellness. Romania enjoys an impressive variety of spa resources, including: bicarbonated, sulphurous, chlorinated, iodized, iodized and radioactive mineral waters, used in treatments for rheumatologic, cardiovascular and dermatologic conditions.
