Brasov is one of the places in Europe that National Geographic recommends as a travel destination in 2025. And not just because of its medieval old town, but also because it is the gateway to Transylvania, attractive for its forests, villages and mountains. The prestigious publication also advises its readers to follow the Via Transilvanica, a hiking trail that offers a view of the whole country. At the end of each year, National Geographic chooses the most popular tourist destinations for the following year. Brasov was included in the list of the world’s most attractive cities. In the plea from the prestigious science and travel magazine, Brasov is presented as the gateway to Transylvania, with ancient forests and fascinating villages. Then tourists are invited to explore further along the Via Transilvanica hiking trail. In the Terra Saxonum section they’ll pass through Saxon villages and the UNESCO World Heritage city of Sighisoara, while in the Terra Dacica section they’ll cross vineyards and see Dacian fortresses. National Geographic’s editors, explorers and photographers have included just six destinations in Europe on their recommended list. As well as Brasov, the top 10 also features areas in Italy, Sweden, Ireland, Scotland and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Brasov and Transylvania compete with the most interesting places on the planet. The National Geographic top 10 takes travel enthusiasts all over the world, for example to Guatemala, Greenland, New Zealand and Senegal.
