In 2024, registered arrivals in tourist accommodation facilities increased by 4.5% compared to 2023, i.e. to 14.263 million people, data from the National Institute of Statistics (NSI) show.
Out of the total, 16.7% were foreign tourists coming mainly from Germany (240,000 people), Italy (213,500 people) and Israel (151,500 people).
“Arrivals registered in tourist accommodation facilities (including apartments and rooms for rent) in 2024 amounted to 14,263,700 persons, an increase of 4.5% compared to 2023. Of the total number of arrivals, in 2024, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation structures with accommodation functions accounted for 83.3%, while the arrivals of foreign tourists accounted for 16.7%.
The registered overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent) in 2024 amounted to 30,191,200, up by 3.5% compared to 2023″, according to the INS data.
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border crossings, amounted to 13,352,900 persons in 2024. Means of road transportation were the most used by foreign visitors (82.1% of total arrivals during the period).
The average length of stay in 2024 was 2.1 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.
According to the NSI, arrivals registered in tourist accommodation facilities in December 2024 totaled 962,800 people, up 6.8% compared to December 2023.
Out of the total number of arrivals in December 2024, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation structures with accommodation functions accounted for 83.7% and the arrivals of foreign tourists for 16.3%.
