After five years of painstaking restoration and an investment of almost EUR 40 million, the Constanta Casino will be opened to tourists.
The official opening is announced for May 21, Constanta Day.
The project focused on restoring the building’s original brilliance by painstakingly recovering the elements that defined it in the early 20th century. The imposing façade, delicate sculptures and ballroom were revitalized using period techniques and materials. The restoration process, guided by archival documents and old photographs, brings to the fore the art of the craftsmen of yesteryear, preserving its aura of mystery and elegance.
Particular emphasis is placed on preserving the spirit of the place: gilded stucco, stained-glass windows and oak parquet flooring have been reinforced and brought back to life without altering the patina of time. Every detail hides a story, and the rehabilitation is essentially a journey into the city’s glorious past.
The Casino of Constanta is one of Romania’s most emblematic monuments and a symbol of the city on the Black Sea.
Built in 1910 and officially inaugurated in 1911, the casino is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau style, realized by the architect Daniel Renard. It was inaugurated on August 15, 1910, in the presence of Prince Ferdinand, making it the largest building of its kind in Romania, costing 1.3 million RON.
