Aro Palace green light to start the refurbishment process of Capitol Hotel

The Capitol Hotel was opened in 1974, and in 2023 the Aro Palace company, which owns it, started the procedure for the approval of the renovation and modernization works of the building in order to reopen it under a new brand.

After having obtained all the necessary permits, including the one from the Ministry of Culture, which had several objections to the project considering that the hotel is located in a historical area, Aro Palace has now obtained the building permit and can start the works. The authorization is valid for 2 years and covers works on an area of 1.2425 sqm.

Following the rebranding, the hotel would be upgraded from two to three stars and the number of rooms, 184, would be further reduced in favor of other services necessary to obtain the classification, but also to meet the standards of the future hotel brand to which the accommodation will be affiliated. Some of the conditions of the modernization project were to treat the back of the building to the same level of detail as the main facade, as well as keeping the portico area at sidewalk level.

The Aro Palace company had already allocated from last year’s budget one million euro for the design, authorization and other preliminary investments for the restoration of this building, and in the next stages the rest of the necessary amounts for a complete renovation will be allocated, with estimates of around 10 million euro.
