The National Association of Tourist Agencies in Romania (ANAT) calls on the government to ensure adequate representation of tourism by appointing a dedicated Secretary of State with direct experience in this vital sector of the economy. The person chosen must be a professional in the tourism industry, a technocrat who has in-depth knowledge of the challenges of the private sector and who can implement real solutions for the development of the sector. Romanian tourism is facing multiple problems which require a pragmatic and well-informed approach. Only a person with direct experience in the industry can understand the real needs of economic agents operating in tourism and HORECA, investors and other stakeholders. Appointing a leader from outside the industry risks perpetuating a lack of direction and compromising tourism’s potential to become a major economic driver. Tourism is one of the few industries capable of quickly generating substantial revenues for the state budget. Attracting investment, creating jobs and promoting Romania as a tourist destination depend on a coherent strategy, led by a specialist. The lack of dedicated representation risks delaying the implementation of development projects and affecting Romania’s international competitiveness. ANAT strongly calls on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy to make the right decision for the future of Romanian tourism. The appointment of a Secretary of State from industry, supported by the private sector, is an essential step to realize the potential of this strategic sector. The National Association of Romanian Tourist Agencies represents the interests of travel agencies throughout the country, promoting a competitive and sustainable environment for tourism development.
