Borșa City Hall is in talks with the North-West Regional Development Agency (RDA), through the Regional Operational Program, in the period 2027 – 2032, to obtain a minimum of EUR 50 million, so that the Olympic slope here, with the old slope in the area of Runcu Știolului and the one in the Prislop Pass to be linked, thus obtaining around 25 km of ski slopes, interconnected, equipped with artificial snow along their entire length, and access to which will be made with the same pass.
‘The three ski areas, Pasul Prislop, with the old ski slope, Runcu Știol, and the gondola with the Olympic slope will be linked together. A first phase, in a project of 25 km of ski slopes, with six more new installations, with a new reservoir up in the Știol area, which will supply the new slopes with snow. So far we have surveyed the whole area – 4,800 hectares. Together with a company from Berlin, we have made a 3D model on a 3D printer showing how the slopes will look, how the installations will be installed. We have laid the power line, we have made the access roads, we have the approval of the National Park and, together with the company Transcablu from Brasov, we are carrying out feasibility studies in order to obtain funding, both through the Regional Operational Program, through the North-West RDA, because from 2027 Romania will be eligible for European funding for ski slopes, and through funding from the Romanian Government or other sources of funding’, announced Mayor Ion Sorin Timis
In addition, there will also be a project accepted by the Ministry of Tourism to finance a cable car to the Rodna’s Pietrosul – the highest peak in the Eastern Carpathians.
