Investment firm Mozaik Investments has entered Romania’s automated low-cost fitness market through the acquisition of the City Gym network and the repositioning of the Urban Fitness brand, a project backed by an initial investment of 8 million EUR. The transaction aims at the rapid national expansion of the network in a local market where the penetration rate of such services is only 5%, compared to the European average of 15-20%.<\/p>\n
Through the project company M-Ventures, Mozaik Investments acquired the operator City Gym, which owns five fitness clubs in Bac\u0103u, Foc\u0219ani, and Roman. M-Ventures had previously acquired the No1 Fitness network, integrated under the Urban Fitness brand, focusing on the HVLP (high value low price) concept. With five new locations signed in Timi\u0219oara and Constan\u021ba, the network reaches 15 operational or soon-to-open clubs.<\/p>\n
The development strategy includes both acquisitions and organic growth, with the goal of reaching around 25 clubs by the end of this year, 40-50 locations by the end of 2027, and a network of approximately 100 clubs in the next five to six years. The first locations are active in Bucharest (5 clubs), followed by spaces in Bac\u0103u, Timi\u0219oara, Constan\u021ba, Foc\u0219ani, Roman, Oradea, Buz\u0103u, and Bra\u0219ov. The clubs will range from 700 to 1,500 square meters and feature a fully digitalized ecosystem based on contactless access and mobile applications.<\/p>\n
Dan F\u0103rc\u0103\u0219anu, Managing Partner at Mozaik Investments and coordinator of Urban Fitness (formerly responsible for an investment in a premium network between 2014 and 2022), highlighted the growth potential in the low-cost segment. Founded in 2019 by Roland Haas, Sacha Dragic, and Vlad Bu\u0219il\u0103, Mozaik Investments typically invests between 5 million EUR and 8 million EUR per transaction.
