National Railway Company CFR SA has signed the contract for the design and execution of the rehabilitation works for Lot 2 Filia\u0219i \u2013 Igiroasa, an investment valued at EUR 344.1 million excluding VAT. The project is an integral part of the modernization program for the Craiova \u2013 Drobeta-Turnu Severin \u2013 Caransebe\u0219 railway line, located on the Orient\/East-Mediterranean European Corridor, and benefits from non-repayable financing through the Transport Program 2021-2027, supplemented by allocations from the state budget.<\/p>\n
The contract was awarded to the TrackWorks association, led by Alstom Transport SA, alongside Terna SA. The consortium includes subcontractors Arcada Company, ISPCF, Stilo Evora, Vertatel International, Danavi, Geostud, and the “Vasile P\u00e2rvan” Institute of Archaeology. The investment covers the section between kilometers 286+735 and 331+000, with a total implementation period of 183 months. This includes 12 months for design, 48 months for work execution, a 120-month warranty period, and 3 months for post-final acceptance activities.<\/p>\n
The project aims to bring the railway line up to European interoperability standards by modernizing lines electrified at 25 kV, installing electronic interlocking systems, and implementing the ERTMS Level 2 system. The rehabilitated infrastructure will allow train traffic with an axle load of up to 22.5 tonnes and freight trains with a length of up to 740 meters. In addition, 400-meter-long high platforms will be built at all stations along the route, passenger areas will be modernized, and noise barriers will be installed. In parallel, the procedure for awarding the supervision contract, for which seven bids were submitted, is under re-evaluation following a decision by the National Council for Solving Complaints (CNSC), with the deadline for this stage being August 15, 2026.<\/p>\n
