This paradigm shift offers independent hotels the opportunity to access large corporate budgets through global distribution systems (GDS), eliminating the need for direct negotiations.

According to Phocuswright analyses, the booking volume of large companies has stagnated, with the sector’s growth currently supported by small businesses and hybrid travel. In this context, companies are trying to regain control over unmanaged travel, which, according to JTB data, represents up to two-thirds of the global total. The main driver of this integration is the need for visibility and safety (duty of care), not just cost reduction. A GBTA survey shows that the main operational challenges for 2026 are booking leakage outside the system (39%) and content gaps in dedicated tools (46%).

Trip.Biz studies indicate that users leave official channels mainly due to the lack of availability of desired rooms. When companies bring these bookings into their own tools, rates are not negotiated; instead, the best available rate (BAR) on the market is applied. For independent hotels, presence on GDS becomes essential to capture this demand without being involved in RFP processes. Supporting this trend, JTB Business Travel launched the Teal Essential solution in April, developed on the Spotnana platform. The tool enabled the migration of hundreds of accounts in a single day and generated a 20 percentage point increase in online booking adoption in just two months.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is driving the shift in business travel bookings?

The shift is driven by companies trying to regain control over unmanaged travel to ensure visibility and traveler safety (duty of care), rather than just reducing costs.

How do independent hotels benefit from GDS in this new landscape?

GDS allows independent hotels to capture corporate demand at the best available rate (BAR) without undergoing complex and direct RFP negotiation processes.

What are the main operational challenges for corporate travel by 2026?

According to GBTA, the main challenges are booking leakage outside official systems (39%) and content gaps in dedicated corporate travel tools (46%).

The business travel market is undergoing a major transformation, marked by the stagnation of classic contracts negotiated through requests for proposals (RFPs) and the growth of the “managed travel” segment by capturing bookings from the open web.
