Egypt Returns to Tourists’ Attention<\/p>\n

Egypt, which 5 years ago was one of the most sought-after holiday destinations for Romanians, is recovering politically, and in a year or two, it will regain its influx of tourists, stated the Egyptian Ambassador to Bucharest, Mohamed Alaaedin Aly Shawky Elhadidi.<\/div>\n

Over 14.7 million tourists visited Egypt in 2010, with the number dropping to 9.8 million in 2011. In the following year, Egypt was visited by 11.5 million tourists, but the number fell again to approximately 10 million last year.<\/div>\n

The Ambassador specified that this year, approximately 11 million tourists were recorded in Egypt, an increase of 70% compared to last year.<\/div>\n

Given the developments in the security situation in Egypt and neighboring states, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens avoid unnecessary travel to certain areas and cities in the country, namely Ismailia, Suez, El Arish, and Rafah.<\/div>\n

Additionally, the ministry recommends avoiding individual travel to Egypt in Taba, Saint Catherine’s Monastery, and any other localities in North Sinai. Tourist trips can be made to the resorts of Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, and Dahab on the Red Sea, but it is recommended to limit optional excursions outside the resorts to a minimum, according to the MFA warning.<\/div>\n
