The establishment of a Ministry of Tourism is not justified when the industry accounts for 2% of GDP, and what we need to do is increase incoming tourism, stated the president of the National Authority for Tourism, Anca Pavel-Nedea, at an informal meeting with the press.<\/div>\n

The ANT President specified that there was no desire to help a specific company and there was a certain restraint from those in the former leadership of the institution to avoid conflict with the private sector.<\/div>\n

„People placed here are afraid because the hospitality industry is very vocal. Moreover, it has levers, including in the media. Other larger industries do not have the visibility that the hospitality industry enjoys. We have it. We are loud in the private sector, and at the state level, we are afraid: these people will break our necks, they will fire us! The private sector has levers, but how does it use them? Very intelligently, each for their own benefit,” stated Anca Pavel-Nedea.<\/div>\n

She specified that representatives of the tourism industry are upset that they do not have a dedicated ministry, and private sector representatives are putting pressure in this regard at the ANT leadership level.<\/div>\n

„Moreover, some federations are calling for the dissolution of ANT, without knowing what the institution actually does. Strategies are primarily made here, not promotion. We need to create projects for tourism infrastructure, classification, control. We need to create a coherent strategy. A promotion body like the RTO – Romanian Tourism Organization is also necessary, but I also believe that the private sector does not have the necessary maturity to manage state money for this promotion. We don’t know, in the private sector, how to manage funds — I know this because I come from the Mamaia promotion tax,” Anca Pavel-Nedea further specified.<\/div>\n
