French group Accor has agreed to acquire the Canadian company FRHI Holdings, owner of the Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissotel hotel brands, in a transaction valued at $3 billion, becoming the world’s largest operator in the luxury hotel segment. The transaction is expected to be finalized in mid-2016.<\/div>\n

The cash and stock transaction is the third-largest hotel acquisition to take place this year, according to data from analysis firm Dealogic.<\/div>\n

Following this transaction, the largest acquisition in Accor Hotels’ history, the French group will take over the Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissotel brands and rise to third place among the world’s largest hotel groups, after Marriott-Starwood and Intercontinental.<\/div>\n

Accor owns approximately 500,000 hotel rooms worldwide and 10 international brands.<\/div>\n

Accor operates 3,600 hotels with 450,000 rooms in 92 countries worldwide through the Sofitel, Pullman, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, and HotelF1 brands. Earlier this year, the Polish group Orbis took over 46 hotels in Central and Eastern Europe for 142.3 million euros from the French group Accor. Most of the hotels targeted by this transaction are located in the capitals of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Poland.<\/div>\n

This transaction takes place less than a month after Marriott International reached an agreement to acquire Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide for $12.2 billion.<\/div>\n
