Located near the Romanian Athenaeum, the site of the former Cina restaurant is set to host a commercial and office project once all permits are obtained. Owned by the Israeli group Elbit Imaging, the property has entered the portfolio of another Israeli company, Jupiter Group.

Trattoria Il Calcio Ateneu currently occupies the space of the former Cina restaurant in Bucharest. The land on which the former Cina restaurant stands has changed owners: the Israeli group Elbit Imaging announces that the sales contract has been concluded for the sum of 4 million euros. The money will go to the two Romanian subsidiaries, Plaza Centers N.V. and Bucuresti Turism S.A., whose portfolio includes properties such as Casa Radio and the Radisson Blu Complex.

The buyer is another Israeli group, Jupiter Group, which intends to continue the steps for the construction of a commercial and office project on this land. The project involves building a four-story building next to the restaurant, on the side facing the Athenaeum, and a four-story building inside the restaurant, with the facade to be preserved. The Technical Urbanism Commission has received several versions for this project, but construction work is far from starting.

A symbol of old Bucharest, the Cina restaurant near the Romanian Athenaeum is located on a plot of nearly 3,400 square meters, viewed with great interest by any real estate developer.

Built in 1907, the building of the former renowned restaurant has the status of a historical monument, so the project for a commercial and office building has not yet managed to obtain all permits.

The building is located in the Calea Victoriei protected area, near monument buildings of national importance, with the maximum permitted height in the area being 22 meters.

The space where the former Cina restaurant is located has had several tenants over the years. Success was only achieved by the Trattoria Il Calcio restaurant chain, which opened its doors here in the spring of 2008, following an initial investment of nearly 150,000 euros. This is the chain’s largest location, which owns over ten units in Romania and one in the United Kingdom.

Source: Imopedia/Media

Frequently Asked Questions

Who purchased the former Cina restaurant site?

The property was acquired by the Israeli group Jupiter Group from Elbit Imaging for 4 million euros.

What are the future plans for the site?

The new owner intends to develop a mixed-use commercial and office project while preserving the building’s historic facade.

What is the current status of the location?

Currently, the space is occupied by the Trattoria Il Calcio Ateneu restaurant, and the new construction projects are awaiting all necessary permits.

One of the most coveted plots in Bucharest has been sold for 4 million euros.
