They spent 4.8 million EUR outside the country on tourism services alone, an amount roughly equal to the previous year.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The trend of tourists choosing destinations in Romania continues this year and is expected to persist throughout 2016, due to the international political climate and the safety our country offers as a holiday destination.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even though traditional destinations were fully booked for New Year&#8217;s Eve, a national decrease of approximately 3.5% in the number of tourists was recorded compared to the previous year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Over 28,000 Romanians chose to spend the holidays in spa resorts, an increase of about 4% compared to last year. Increases were also recorded on the coast and in the Danube Delta.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>52,000 tourists chose to spend New Year&#8217;s Eve in rural guesthouses, 8% fewer than last year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Decreases were also recorded in mountain areas, where 36,000 people opted to spend their mountain vacation, a 2% decrease compared to last year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Over 30,000 people spent New Year&#8217;s Eve in hotels in Romania&#8217;s major cities, a decrease of approximately 5% compared to the previous year.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Regarding the rates charged during the holidays, they increased by an average of 5% compared to the previous year. Thus, Romanians spent over 140 million RON on New Year&#8217;s Eve packages within the country, a 2% decrease compared to the previous year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The most sought-after areas were Prahova Valley, Poiana Brasov, Paltinis, Ranca, Straja, Calimanesti, Felix, and traditional rural areas like Bran-Moieciu, Maramures, and Bucovina.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The number of those who spent New Year&#8217;s Eve in other countries decreased by approximately 5% compared to 2015, reaching 8,180 tourists, who spent 1.4% more than last year. Most purchased packages for ski and winter sports destinations in Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, and Bulgaria.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There is a noticeable decline in interest for city-break destinations, a disappearance of requests for countries in the Near and Middle East, and an increased interest in long-haul destinations. New destinations like the Bahamas, Jamaica, Australia, South Africa, Vietnam, and Dubai have emerged. Increased interest was also recorded for the Dominican Republic, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, and Brazil.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The number of Romanian tourists purchasing tourism services through online booking systems is continuously growing.
