Slowly but surely, leisure tourism is gaining ground in Romania&#8217;s major cities (Bucharest, Sibiu, Constanta), with a higher growth rate than business tourism, according to the analysis of the Ibis Romania hotel network, a member of the Accor group.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Although the majority of the Ibis hotel chain&#8217;s tourists in Romania are concentrated in the business area, the leisure and recreation tourism segment experienced an upward trend in 2015.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With over half of the clients being of Romanian nationality, three-quarters of the tourists who visited Ibis hotels traveled for business, and a quarter of them for vacation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Events in major cities attracted the most visitors in the leisure segment, with top rankings including Christmas city breaks in Sibiu, city breaks in Bucharest for concerts by Robbie Williams and Andre Rieu, the May 1st weekend in Constanta, and accommodation packages for the Sibiu International Theatre Festival.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the top of business events at Ibis in 2015 were training sessions, conferences organized within EU fund projects, and various internal company meetings.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For 2016, Ioan David, the director of the Ibis Romania network, estimates an increase in the number of leisure tourists, driven by cultural and sporting events.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Ibis operates four 3-star hotels in Romania: two in Bucharest and one each in Constanta and Sibiu.
