Record in 2016: NEPI Pays 100 Million Euros for Shopping City Sibiu<\/p>\n

The largest retail transaction of this year concluded in Sibiu: the giant NEPI has expanded its portfolio with another mall, paying 100 million euros for Shopping City Sibiu. Previously owned by the British investment fund Argo, Shopping City Sibiu is the most important commercial area in the city.<\/div>\n

NEPI is consolidating its supremacy in the Romanian real estate market. The latest move was made in Sibiu, where the South African investment fund acquired the largest commercial area in the region, Shopping City Sibiu. The retail park joins a dense portfolio, which also includes Promenada Mall, Mega Mall, and Vulcan Value Centre in the Capital, as well as City Park Constanta, Ploiesti Shopping City, Shopping City Deva, Shopping City Timisoara, and other office centers in Bucharest and the provinces.<\/div>\n

Opened to the public 10 years ago, Shopping City Sibiu has become one of the largest retail parks in Romania, currently reaching a leasable area of nearly 80,000 square meters. The project belonged to the British from Argo Real Estate Opportunities Fund (AREOF), one of the largest owners of retail parks and shopping centers in Central and South-Eastern Europe, totaling over 340,000 sqm. Alongside the commercial center in Sibiu, the British portfolio in Romania also includes Shopping City Suceava, Era Shopping Park Oradea, and Era Shopping Park Iasi.<\/div>\n

“Intense management and our team’s continuous focus on the tenant mix have made Shopping City Sibiu the main shopping destination in the Sibiu region. The most recent and final initiative before selling the project was bringing the first multiplex cinema to Sibiu. We want to appreciate the efforts of the entire team that helped us bring added value to the project and also in completing the sales process. ARGO Group continues to restructure its portfolio in Romania with the aim of optimizing investments made in the Central and Eastern European commercial market,” stated Dennis Selinas, CEO of Argo Group.<\/div>\n

The agreed price of 100 million euros places the transaction in first place among contracts concluded on the Romanian market in 2016. Furthermore, it confirms that real estate developers have begun to be interested in the potential of the provinces, redirecting their investments to cities other than the four or five well-known university centers.<\/div>\n

“This is the largest single-property transaction outside Bucharest since the economic crisis. Investors have once again become interested in the real estate market outside Bucharest, after a long period in which the Capital was their main target. The size and fundamentals of the property attracted not only the buyer but also other investors to Sibiu,” concluded Andrei Vacaru, Associate Director Capital Markets JLL Romania, the real estate company that represented Argo Group in this transaction.<\/div>\n
