They spent over 6 million EUR outside the country on tourism services alone, a figure 23% higher than the previous year, according to the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR).<\/p>\n<p>During this period, the preference for Romanian destinations was maintained, a trend expected to continue throughout 2017, driven by the international political climate and the safety offered by our country as a holiday destination.<\/p>\n<p>The most sought-after areas were Prahova Valley, Poiana Brasov, Paltinis, Ranca, Straja, Calimanesti, Felix, and traditional rural areas such as Bran-Moieciu, Maramures, and Bucovina.<\/p>\n<p>Over 29,000 Romanians chose to spend the winter holidays in spa resorts, an increase of 3.5% compared to last year. Increases were also recorded in the Danube Delta, but not on the seaside.<\/p>\n<p>Rural tourism continues to record the highest number of seats sold for New Year&#8217;s Eve. Thus, 55,000 tourists preferred to spend the night at guesthouses, 5% more than last year.<\/p>\n<p>Increases were also noted in mountain areas, where 38,000 people opted to spend their New Year&#8217;s holiday in the mountains, up 5% from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Over 35,000 people paid for New Year&#8217;s Eve offers at hotels in Romania&#8217;s major cities, an increase of approximately 16% compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Romanians who chose to spend their holiday abroad had a choice between skiing and winter sports destinations, city-break packages in European cities, and distant exotic destinations.
