In this context, the minister explained that Miorita would represent the image of Romanian tourism better than the leaf.

Tour operators disapprove of the brand change, saying that there are much more important problems to solve in tourism, and they ironize the idea of replacing the leaf with a sheep. Miorita, they believe, is a sad, pessimistic legend, with three Romanians killing each other, and the sheep itself is perceived as a stupid and submissive animal. These things lead tour operators to consider the association between Miorita and Romanian tourism uninspired.

Source: Profit

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the minister want to change the tourism brand?

The minister believes that symbols like Miorita would represent Romania better than the current leaf, drawing analogies with national symbols used by Spain or France.

Why can’t the change happen immediately?

A brand change before 2020 would trigger an €850,000 penalty that would have to be paid to the European Commission.

What is the reaction of tour operators?

Industry representatives disapprove of the idea, considering the Miorita legend too pessimistic and arguing that there are much more urgent problems in tourism.

The Minister of Tourism, Mircea Titus Dobre, stated at the Parliament that he presented to tourism businesspeople the idea of changing Romania’s tourism brand as a „principled” discussion, in the context where a series of brochures need to be produced, and that the ministry does not intend to operate such a change quickly, because €850,000…

[2858
["post-121978","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tourism
["GET
