Of these, 73% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists and 27% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe &#8211; 75.6% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 86.7% were from countries belonging to the European Union.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures in May of this year totaled 1,911.9 thousand, an increase of 0.2% compared to May 2016. Higher occupancy rates in May 2017 were recorded in accommodation spaces on ships &#8211; 51.5%, hotels &#8211; 33.3%, inns &#8211; 30.2%, hostels &#8211; 20.1%, tourist villas &#8211; 18.9%, tourist pensions and tourist campsites &#8211; each with 18.8%.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 1,068.8 thousand in May 2017, an increase of 19.3% compared to May 2016.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe &#8211; 88.9%. Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 57.3% come from European Union states, and among the European Union states, the most arrivals were recorded from Bulgaria &#8211; 24.9%, Hungary &#8211; 21.8%, Italy &#8211; 10%, Germany &#8211; 9.3%, the United Kingdom &#8211; 5.3%, and France &#8211; 5.2%.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border points, were 1,600.7 thousand in May 2017, an increase of 13.9% compared to May 2016.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 67.3% of the total number of departures.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Arrivals registered in tourist reception structures in the period January \u2013 May 2017 totaled 3,848.7 thousand, an increase of 10.9% compared to the same period in 2016. Higher occupancy rates in the period January \u2013 May 2017 were recorded in accommodation spaces on ships &#8211; 40.2%, hotels &#8211; 29.6%, inns &#8211; 18.7%, tourist villas &#8211; 17.4%, and hostels &#8211; 17.2%.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions came from Germany &#8211; 103.3 thousand, Italy \u2013 89 thousand, Israel &#8211; 87.9 thousand, France \u2013 58 thousand, and the United Kingdom &#8211; 57.5 thousand.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 4,288.6 thousand in the period January \u2013 May 2017, an increase of 24.1% compared to the similar period in 2016.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe &#8211; 90.3%. Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 56.5% come from European Union states.
