At the national level, sustained efforts are being made to revive this tourism segment. It is by no means easy, given the advanced state of decay of many of these resorts. It requires significant time and massive investments, but small steps are already being taken in this direction: new accommodation spaces have appeared, old ones have been modernized, investments are being made in tourist points of interest, and efforts are underway to attract a younger audience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Health resorts are points of interest for all tourists, but when they look at stay offers, they are often disappointed and turn their searches toward more popular locations. However, in the last year, tourist attitudes seem to have changed. Overall, approximately 850,000 tourists visited health resorts, of which 46,000 were foreign tourists. In some resorts, the number of tourists has even doubled. A clear example in this regard is the Baile Tusnad resort in Harghita.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Romania&#8217;s smallest town, Baile Tusnad, with just over 1,600 inhabitants, attracted 5,309 foreign tourists last year, double the previous year. Overall, last year, the number of foreigners choosing Romanian spa resorts increased by 10% compared to 2015. Other popular destinations include Sovata &#8211; Mures, Baile Tusnad \u2013 Harghita, Slanic Prahova, or Baile Olanesti. This increase in tourist numbers is hard-earned.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Romanians are used to staying in guesthouses, but foreign tourists look for hotels. So, in recent years, hard work has gone into building hotels to increase both diversity and accommodation capacity. However, hotels are significant investments, difficult to make, which is why many resorts have still lagged behind in this chapter,&#8221; explains Matei Eremia, a travel agency representative.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Currently, there are only two five-star hotels in local spa resorts. The number is slightly higher for four-star hotels \u2013 13 units. In the case of two and three-star hotels, the numbers are similar: 55 and 54 units. Most regular spa resort tourists\u2014retirees\u2014stay in hotels. They use state-issued treatment tickets, which offer a low profit margin for hoteliers.
