In total, 1.2 million employees should receive these vouchers.

“All institutions, according to the law, must have the amounts for holiday vouchers included in their budgets. In a very short period, they will be distributed to employees. We are talking about approximately 1.2 million people. It is a significant amount that will be directly allocated to the tourism sector,” stated the Minister of Tourism, Bogdan Trif, during a press conference.

Public sector employees in state institutions can benefit, until November 30, 2018, from holiday vouchers in the amount of 1,450 lei. The voucher is nominal and has the CNP (Personal Identification Number) inscribed, thus providing proof that it has not been transferred.

Holiday vouchers are taxed at 10%, as the regulatory act eliminated the CAS (social security) and CASS (health insurance) taxes.

Any employee can refuse the holiday vouchers, and if there are cases where someone took them but changed their mind and no longer wants to use them, they can return them to the employer and will receive the 10% tax back.

The Minister of Tourism, Bogdan Trif, stated that sanctions are provided for those who want to sell the holiday vouchers, as well as for those in the tourism industry who accept them.

“27,000 RON is the maximum fine, both for those who sell them and for the hoteliers who agree to settle vouchers that are not to the bearer, meaning they do not belong to the person for whom they were issued. However, if we were to assume that 1% of Romanians would sell their vouchers, it is still a good thing, because Romanians are still spending the money and the money will still be spent in a hotel in Romania,” the minister specified.

Asked about what will happen with these vouchers next year, Bogdan Trif explained that the measure to stimulate tourism will be maintained, but with minor modifications.

The official emphasized that holiday vouchers are not the only measure taken by the PSD Government to stimulate tourism. “The Government has reduced VAT, which is a substantial aid for the tourism industry. It also reduced VAT for food products, so that a competitive price can be maintained in restaurants and hotels,” he specified.
Source: Wall-Street

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the value of the holiday vouchers?

The value of the holiday vouchers for public sector employees is 1,450 lei.

Can holiday vouchers be sold or transferred?

No, the vouchers are nominal and include the holder’s personal identification number.
