But now in tourism, you are no longer allowed to do this, due to the removal of the sector from the day laborer category; instead, you must hire such a person for a fixed period of at least three months, given that, until today, tourism was one of the fields where day laborers were used extensively. Now, it is hoped that this limitation will be modified again, the subject currently being discussed by the ministries of Labor, Finance, and the Business Environment, but without it being clear if tourism will be reintroduced into the day laborer category.

He adds that on the coast as well, day laborers were used a lot, especially on weekends when the number of tourists in resorts increased significantly. Limiting the sectors where day laborers can be hired, states Calin Ile, greatly increases labor costs and could generate more “black economy.”

Certainly, the increase in labor costs will be reflected in the price of weddings and food in seaside restaurants, he warns.

Source: Profit

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are day laborers no longer allowed in Romanian tourism?

A recent fiscal ordinance reduced the number of eligible sectors for day laborers from 22 to 3, excluding tourism to encourage more stable employment contracts.

How does this change affect the cost of services?

Hoteliers warn that labor costs will rise, leading to more expensive wedding packages and higher restaurant prices, especially at the seaside.

What are the current hiring alternatives for the tourism industry?

Employers must now use fixed-term contracts of at least three months instead of the flexible day laborer system, though legislative changes are still being discussed.

In the ordinance with fiscal measures from the end of last year, a drastic limitation on the number of sectors where day laborers can be used was slipped in, reducing them from 22 to 3, with the tourism sector disappearing from the list.
