Beyond tickets sold, the festival business means tens of millions of lei in revenue from services, from food and drinks to transport, tourism, promotional products, and related businesses.

According to the study, businesses in this sector recorded revenues of 472.6 million RON last year, over 80 million RON more than in 2017.

In 2010, the 366 companies in this sector, which include the necessary organization and logistics, reported business of 77,945,890 RON. Against the backdrop of the sector’s development, the number of firms also increased substantially, reaching 1,196 firms in 2017 and 1,238 companies in 2018, according to the Frames analysis.

Market-level profit increased from 5.8 million RON in 2010 to 62.2 million RON in 2017, and 87.9 million RON in 2018, respectively.

The industry’s average net profit increased from 19,358 RON in 2010 to 71,069 RON in 2018, and the average total capital reached the level of 91,708 RON.

In a market where the number of firms has increased significantly in recent years, Untold SRL continues to be the main player, with business of 68.3 million RON in 2018, an increase of over 9 million RON compared to the previous year.

In second place was GLOBAL RECORDS SRL from Constanta, with business of 45.8 million RON in 2018, an increase of 13 million RON compared to 2017, and a profit of 3.7 million RON.

Third place is held by the Cluj-based company FESTIVAL TICKETS MANAGEMENT SRL, with business of 26.9 million RON and a profit of 2.3 million RON in 2018.

The business of Neversea SRL Cluj increased by 7.4 million RON compared to 2017, up to 25.2 million RON in 2018.

The entertainment market in Romania has significant potential for future growth, analysts say.

“New generations are much more attracted to such events, to the Western culture where such festivals are in the foreground. Ultra Music Festival represents, at an international level, a benchmark in the field, a business that, in the last 20 years, has expanded worldwide, with events involving hundreds of thousands of people. Untold, Neversea, but also the George Enescu Festival have proven that large-scale festivals can also take place in Romania, of course against the backdrop of the increasing purchasing power of Romanians. We already have a calendar of high-profile events that, beyond the local public, attracts more and more foreigners, so that, in addition to the business itself, Romania also gains in terms of tourism,” said Adrian Negrescu, manager of Frames.

According to the Frames analysis, against the backdrop of investments in this sector (logistics, concerts, festivals, etc.) and the expansion of the customer base (spectators), it is not excluded that, in the 2021-2022 horizon, the entertainment market in Romania will reach the level of 1 billion RON.

Source: Frames

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the estimated value of the Romanian festival market this year?

Analysts estimate that the market will exceed the historic threshold of 600 million RON, supported by over 1 million spectators.

Who are the leading players in the Romanian entertainment market?

Untold SRL remains the market leader, followed by Global Records and Festival Tickets Management, reflecting growing competition.

What are the future prospects for this industry?

Due to investments in logistics and increased interest, the market could reach the 1 billion RON mark in the 2021-2022 period.

Analysts from Frames estimate that the more than 1 million spectators this season will push the Romanian festival market to a historic record, beyond the 600 million RON threshold.
