In 2018, through the introduction of holiday vouchers, the number of tourists increased by 22% on the seaside, but this summer the growth was only 3%, according to data from the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers, FPTR.<\/div>\n

“Although an exaggerated increase in seaside tariffs was circulated in the press based on superficial studies, this year they increased on average by only 4%, a percentage insufficient to cover the increase in expenses with salaries, raw materials, and utilities,” the FPTR statement says.<\/div>\n

Voucher beneficiaries chose to spend their holidays in other destinations in the country this year, taking advantage of the fact that the offer of accommodation units accepting holiday voucher payments has doubled.<\/div>\n

Mamaia, Eforie Nord, and Venus were the resorts with the highest demand, while at the opposite pole were Olimp, Cap Aurora, and Eforie Sud, FPTR representatives stated.<\/div>\n

The tariff increase of only 4% and the statistical increase in the number of tourists by only 3% compared to 2018 caused the profit of seaside hoteliers to decrease compared to the previous year.<\/div>\n

Given the numerous investments in tourist reception structures, a continued growth trend in the number of tourists in the southern seaside was observed, especially among family tourists with children.<\/div>\n

According to the official website of the Ministry of Tourism, on September 13, 2019, in the resorts on the Romanian seaside, including Constanta, Eforie, and Mangalia, there were 2,082 classified accommodation structures, which had 61,736 accommodation spaces and provided 132,217 accommodation places, 10,937 more than last year.<\/div>\n

About 75,001 of the accommodation places are in hotels, and the remaining 57,216 accommodation places are in villas, campsites, hostels.<\/div>\n

The top ten countries of origin for foreign tourists who arrived on the Romanian seaside in July was led by Germany, followed by the USA, Israel, France, Poland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, Austria, and the Republic of Moldova.<\/div>\n

The occupancy rate on the seaside in June was slightly over 50% due to the special “Seaside for Everyone" program and tickets sold through the early booking system.<\/div>\n

This year, the labor crisis continued on the seaside. The causes are: population exodus, declining birth rate, retirement of many employees, anachronistic and protectionist legislation.<\/div>\n

The FPTR management says that, in the absence of judicious management of tourist destinations, local authorities granted permits to large retailers for the construction of hypermarkets and permits for small grocery stores where not necessary, which led to the transformation of tourist resorts into cities and tourists into residents, causing tourism operators large losses in sales from public catering activities.<\/div>\n
