The development strategy, coordinated by General Manager Romeo Vatră, aims to consolidate the airport’s role as a regional hub by expanding processing capacity, digitalizing passenger flows, and diversifying logistical components.

The new control tower project, an eight-level building with 360-degree visibility, will house the Weather Office, the Observers’ Room, and administrative spaces, being essential for managing the growth in air traffic. This investment follows the opening of the T4 terminal in March 2024 and the completion of the runway lighting modernization at the end of 2025. In parallel, the institution aims to recover the CAT II category for operations in low-visibility conditions and to build a second photovoltaic park.

For 2026, the investment plan includes the modernization and repartitioning of the T3 terminal to align its visual identity with that of T4, the expansion of boarding areas, and the setup of a waiting station equipped with video surveillance. At the same time, non-Schengen passenger flows will be transferred from T3 in T4, where the European Entry/Exit System (EES) will be implemented through the installation of automated ABC gates. Access infrastructure will be completed by a new public transport parking lot, which will include 10 spaces for minibuses, 15 for taxis and ride-sharing, as well as two spaces for coaches.

In the logistics and administrative segment, the T2 terminal will be reconfigured for cross-docking and light cargo activities, while the T1 terminal is to be transformed into an administrative center. These transformations aim to optimize operations, increase safety, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the airport infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main features of the new control tower at Iași Airport?

The new control tower will be an eight-level building offering 360-degree visibility, housing the Weather Office, Observers’ Room, and administrative spaces to manage increased air traffic.

How will passenger flows change at Iași Airport by 2026?

Non-Schengen flows will move to Terminal T4, which will feature automated ABC gates for the European Entry/Exit System, while Terminal T3 will be modernized to match T4’s visual identity.

What logistical improvements are planned for the older terminals?

Terminal T2 will be reconfigured for cross-docking and light cargo operations, and Terminal T1 will be converted into the airport’s administrative center.

New Infrastructure Investments at Iași Airport Iași Airport is launching a new stage of operational infrastructure modernization, centered on the construction of an integrated control tower.
