The period of the state of emergency declaration means for most hotels in the country, especially those in resorts and tourist areas, but also for those in Bucharest, the suspension of activity.<\/div>\n

There are 1,500 hotels in Romania. Of these, approximately 600 are seasonal, being <\/div>\n
open only during the summer, according to the Federation of the Romanian Hotel Industry, FIHR.<\/div>\n

Out of the 180 responses received from hoteliers contacted by FIHR, approximately 10% have already closed, namely 90 hotels.<\/div>\n

Approximately 40% of the contacted hoteliers are going to close their activity in the immediate period, meaning a number of 360 hotels.<\/div>\n

„At the current time, at least now, in March, we can almost no longer talk about tourism<\/div>\n
at all, globally. Tourism has come to a standstill, time has stopped… More and more states are taking drastic, short-term measures to secure and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Many countries have banned or limited the access of visitors from other countries, more and more states are declaring a state of emergency or alert,” said Traian Badulescu, Tourism consultant.<\/div>\n

In the period of March 1-16, the occupancy rate of hotels in Bucharest, compared to the same period last year, decreased from 69.6% to 31%. This means that the occupancy rate is 55.46% lower.<\/div>\n

At the national level, the occupancy rate of hotels decreased in March, compared to the same period last year, from 64% to 22%, meaning there is a 65.62% lower occupancy.<\/div>\n
