The Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment (MEEMA) proposes a 100% guarantee for vouchers offered to tourists as an alternative to refunds for trips canceled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release from the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The draft normative act provides for a 100% guarantee by the Romanian state for vouchers offered to tourists by travel agencies and accommodation structures with lodging functions, as an alternative to cash refunds for canceled trips, in the event of the voucher issuers’ insolvency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Equally, the aim is to cover the guarantee premiums owed by the beneficiaries of the state aid scheme for guaranteeing vouchers offered to tourists as an alternative to refunds for tourist packages and single travel services canceled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two state aid schemes will have a limited duration, until December 31, 2020. Therefore, only vouchers issued until this date will be guaranteed, regardless of their validity period. The proposed support measures will come into force only after approval by the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n
