especially in regions where industry is less developed.

Romania can develop high-quality balneotherapy tourism with the approximately 8,500 mineral and thermal springs it possesses.

Balneotherapy Tourism Employers’ Associations claim that Romania is the richest country in Europe in terms of balneological resources, holding about one-third of Europe’s mineral and thermal springs, yet only 10% of the springs are exploited.

The Romanian Balneology Association organized a reflection/working group, inviting specialists from all balneotherapy resorts to combine their efforts to support the association’s initiative to successfully overcome the crisis generated by the Covid-19 infection and to responsibly plan the systemic changes the balneology sector will have to undergo.

In conclusion, we convey the main elements we believe are justified by the reflection group’s activity, with the following proposals:

Development of a program – a dedicated funding axis for Balneotherapy Resorts through which we aim for their development, appropriate investments, modern equipment, and grounding the use of natural factors through scientific research;

Rebranding balneotherapy tourism with foundational elements generated by scientific research, integrating modern know-how and aiming for increased economic competitiveness;

Development of norms and procedures to support the epidemiological safety of using natural therapeutic factors;

Promoting the concept of “Balneotherapy Romania” in a socio-economic-political context as a National Project for the development of Balneotherapy Tourism, especially in connection with the concept of Healthy-Ageing, for which Romania is internationally known, particularly through the ANA ASLAN brand.

Promoting Romania as a balneotherapy tourism destination at domestic and international events, workshops, congresses, seminars, forums, etc.

To achieve the performance parameters Romania can reach in this sector, it is absolutely necessary for a Ministry of Tourism to exist within the structure of the next Government of Romania.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a Ministry of Tourism necessary in Romania?
The Romanian Balneology Association argues that a dedicated ministry is essential for effective management, international promotion, and real dialogue with industry specialists.
What is Romania’s balneological potential?
Romania possesses approximately one-third of Europe’s mineral and thermal springs (about 8,500 sources), but currently, only 10% of these are being exploited.
What does the Romanian Balneology Association propose for sector development?
Proposals include creating a dedicated funding axis, rebranding based on scientific research, and promoting the “Healthy-Ageing”
