Arrivals registered in tourist reception structures in January 2021 totaled 480.9 thousand people, a decrease of 39.6% compared to those in January 2020. Of these, 96% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists and 4% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe, 80.7% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 72.3% were from European Union countries.<\/p>\n
Overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures in January 2021 totaled 884.3 thousand, a decrease of 43.9% compared to those in January 2020. Of these, 95% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 5% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe, 82% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 72.5% were from European Union countries.<\/p>\n

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in January 2021 was 17.2% for total tourist accommodation structures, a decrease of 7.8 percentage points compared to January 2020. Higher occupancy rates were recorded in hotels and inns (19.5% each), tourist villas (18.7%), tourist chalets (17.9%), tourist boarding houses (14.5%), agritourism boarding houses (13.8%), bungalows (13.6%), and hostels (12.2%).<\/p>\n
By country, the most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions came from Germany – 2 thousand people, Italy – 1.7 thousand people, France – 1.5 thousand people, the Republic of Moldova – 1.2 thousand people, and Hungary – 1.1 thousand people.<\/p>\n
Foreign visitor arrivals in Romania, registered at border points, were 337.4 thousand people in January 2021, a decrease of 59% compared to January 2020. Road and air transport were the most used for arrivals from abroad, representing 89.4% and 7.6% of the total number of arrivals, respectively.<\/p>\n
Romanian visitor departures abroad, registered at border points, were 753.6 thousand people in January 2021, a decrease of 63.1% compared to January 2020. Road and air transport were the most used for departures abroad, representing 78.6% and 20.9% of the total number of departures, respectively.<\/p>\n
