Last year, the turnover in the HoReCa industry decreased in 2020 by 35% compared to 2019, to 17.9 billion RON, compared to 27.5 billion RON in 2019, as a result of the pandemic, reveals an analysis conducted by the Termene.ro platform based on the financial statements reported by companies in Romania.<\/p>\n
The number of employees in the hotel and restaurant industry was reduced during 2020 from 186,000 in 2019 to 150,000.<\/p>\n
The cumulative level of net losses in HoReCa increased by 220% in 2020, up to 2.3 billion RON, compared to 710 million RON in 2019.<\/p>\n
According to the analysis, the net profit recorded by companies in the HoReCa industry decreased by 46.5%, to 2.49 billion RON in 2020, compared to 4.65 billion RON in 2019.<\/p>\n
The hospitality industry is the sector that recorded the largest increase in net losses in 2020, of 220%, followed by the events industry with 169% and the information and communications sector, with an 81% advance in net losses.<\/p>\n
In terms of turnover evolution, only the events industry, severely affected by the pandemic, recorded a larger decrease than HoReCa operators, with a total decline of 38% in 2020 compared to 2019.<\/p>\n
Regarding the adaptation of the HoReCa industry in the context of the pandemic, the analysis shows that in the last year, innovation, company adaptation, and the delivery sector kept many businesses in the HoReCa industry afloat. Specifically, during the pandemic, 47% of the restaurant market was generated by delivery services.<\/p>\n
