Foreign tourists booked over 2.3 million nights of accommodation in Romania through Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor in 2019, according to the first statistics provided by the four platforms based on an agreement signed with the European Commission in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, the number of nights booked through the four platforms in Romania in 2019, the year before the pandemic outbreak, amounted to 4.55 million, of which 2.329 million represented overnight stays by foreign tourists, and 2.222 million nights spent by Romanian tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the European Union level, over 554 million nights were booked through one of the platforms operated by Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor, up 14% compared to 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All EU member states recorded increases in 2019 regarding the number of nights booked through the four platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The over 554 million nights booked in the EU through Airbnb and the other platforms in 2019 represented 53 million stays, of which nearly 32 million were stays by foreign tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On average in the EU, a stay included 10.4 nights, according to the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The highest number of nights per stay were spent in Cyprus and Malta (16 nights\/stay), followed by Spain, Croatia and Portugal (13 nights). At the opposite end, bookings made in Romania, Lithuania, Estonia and Luxembourg did not include more than 7 nights per stay.<\/p>\n\n\n
