After the global lockdown and numerous changes in travel conditions had dramatic effects on the air transport industry everywhere, this year’s summer season came as a breath of fresh air for tourism players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vola.ro issued flight tickets for nearly 100,000 clients between June and August 2021, a level representing approximately 95% of that reached in 2019 and an increase of over 200% compared to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the main causes favoring an accelerated recovery of tourism demand during the analyzed period were announcements regarding the reopening of multiple destinations in Europe, simplified travel conditions with the issuance of green certificates, as well as a lower number of COVID cases during the summer, which, together with the increasing number of vaccinated people, gave Romanians greater confidence in resuming their travels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Vola.ro specialists, although flight ticket sales are approaching pre-pandemic levels for the online travel agency, at the aviation industry level, volumes are well below expected values. Additionally, changes imposed by authorities limited demand at the European level, causing instabilities regarding flight operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consequently, while in 2019 only a maximum of 5% of flights suffered changes or were canceled, in 2021 over 35% of flights in the summer season were affected by delays or cancellations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The preferred destinations for Romanians during June-August 2021 remain largely unchanged, namely Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, and Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The average price for summer 2021 was 147 EUR, and the best-selling route was Bucharest \u2013 London and return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The volume of domestic flights increased considerably in the context of lifting restrictions for events<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As soon as the Romanian authorities announced the lifting of restrictions for events, three festivals in Cluj-Napoca announced their reopening, which triggered a visible increase in the demand for flight tickets on this route in July and August.<\/p>\n\n\n
