“The relaxation of travel restrictions for vaccinated travelers, coupled with progress in vaccination campaigns, contributed to improving consumer confidence and the gradual restoration of safe mobility conditions in Europe and other parts of the world. In contrast, many destinations in Asia remain closed for non-essential travel,” UNWTO emphasizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UNWTO specifies that 2021 continues to be a difficult year for global tourism, given that in the January-July 2021 period, international arrivals are 80% below the level of the same period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first 7 months of this year, the Asia-Pacific region recorded the worst decline in the number of international travelers compared to 2019 (minus 95%), followed by the Middle East (minus 82%), Europe, and Africa (both with a minus of 77%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the coming period, UNWTO is betting on a recovery of global tourism in 2022 but believes the sector will not return to pre-crisis levels until 2023 or 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n
