Tourism was one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic. The number of foreign tourists decreased by over 94% during this period, and participation in tourism fairs was canceled, marking the first time in 40 years that Romania did not participate in the World Travel Market in London, the most important trade fair of its kind in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The financial aid scheme for working capital offered to SMEs stopped after about two-thirds of its implementation; several thousand applications were rejected\u2014most for exclusively bureaucratic reasons\u2014and several thousand others, although listed as admitted, currently have no hope of receiving these funds after making huge efforts to retain all employees throughout this period, which was one of the strict conditions they had to accept upon application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paradoxically, although financial resources are not found for these thousands of SMEs that support the state budget monthly and pay salaries to tens of thousands of employees, the government has reopened a similar measure dedicated to enterprises with no employees, which have insignificant contributions to the state budget and from whose list of potential eligibles, authorized freelancers and commercial companies with activities in tourism and related fields are precisely missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We wish to draw the attention of those currently responsible for this program, interim Prime Minister Florin C\u00ee\u021bu, interim Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Virgil Popescu, as well as those who will join the government structure, that the existence of these firms is endangered because, according to our analysis, without this support, half of the firms will cease their activity by spring,” stated ANAT representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They requested the completion of the evaluation of applications and pending appeals by November 20, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n
