Over 400 restaurants closed in 2021 on the Romanian market<\/p>\n
According to data centralized and transmitted by the Trade Register, the number of companies with the “Restaurants” object of activity that entered insolvency in 2021 doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 415, of which 148 are already struck off, and another 166 companies are in bankruptcy.
\nIn what concerns the hotel segment, only 56 companies operating hotels, out of the approximately 1,200 existing nationwide, declared insolvency in the last 2 years.<\/p>\n
One of the reasons is that 2019 was the best year for Romanian tourism, with good profit rates, which helped hoteliers stay afloat in 2020, the first year of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
In the hotel segment, losses amounted to over 1 billion RON in 2020, while restaurants recorded a cumulative loss of 993 million RON.<\/p>\n
For 2022, if the impact of the pandemic continues to manifest in the hotel sector, the FIHR president estimates that 2-3 difficult months will follow, in which hoteliers will no longer be able to rely on reserves.<\/p>\n
In the restaurant category, turnover decreased by almost 30% in 2020, from 12.4 billion RON in 2019 to 8.7 billion RON, a turnover achieved by the 4,240 restaurants existing nationwide last year.<\/p>\n
The top 20 largest insolvencies had a cumulative turnover of 123.5 million RON in 2019, representing 0.99% of the entire restaurant market, estimated at 12.4 billion RON in 2019.<\/p>\n
