Arrivals registered in tourist reception structures in December 2021 totaled 579.3 thousand people, an increase of 69.5% compared to December 2020. Of these, 90.4% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists, and 9.6% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe, 76.9% of the total foreign tourists, and of these, 72.3% arrived from European Union countries.<\/p>\n
Overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures in December 2021 totaled 1,101.2 thousand, an increase of 76% compared to December 2020. Of these, 88.6% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 11.4% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
Regarding the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those arriving from Europe – 74.1% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 71.0% came from European Union countries.<\/p>\n
The average length of stay in December 2021 was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2.3 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate of tourist accommodation places in December 2021 was 19.1% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 6.9% compared to December 2020.<\/p>\n
Higher net occupancy rates in December 2021 were recorded in hotels (22.1%), tourist villas and tourist guesthouses (each with 16.4%), bungalows (15.6%), agritourism guesthouses (15.3%), tourist chalets (13.6%), tourist stops (13.5%), hostels (12.6%), and motels (11.6%).<\/p>\n
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 546.9 thousand people in December 2021, an increase of 92.2% compared to December 2020.<\/p>\n
Road and air transport were the most used for arrivals from abroad, representing 75.1% and 22%, respectively, of the total number of arrivals.<\/p>\n
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad registered at border points were 822.5 thousand people in December 2021, an increase of 83% compared to December 2020.<\/p>\n
Road and air transport were the most used for departures abroad, representing 61.5% and 37.8%, respectively, of the total number of departures.<\/p>\n

The average length of stay in 2021 was 2.2 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
The net occupancy rate of tourist accommodation places in 2021 was 26.5% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 3.6% compared to 2020. Higher net occupancy rates in 2021 were recorded in hotels (32.1%), bungalows (25.2%), tourist villas (25.0%), accommodation spaces on ships (24.3%), campsites (20.4%), tourist cottages (19.9%), tourist stops (18.6%), tourist guesthouses (18.3%), hostels (17.7%), agritourism guesthouses (17.3%), and tourist chalets (15.6%).<\/p>\n
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 6,788.8 thousand people in 2021, an increase of 35.2% compared to 2020.<\/p>\n
