Phase II of Beach Widening Begins on the Romanian Coast<\/p>\n
On April 19, the Continental \u2013 Forum Hotel in Constanta hosted the press conference for the launch of the project “Reduction of Coastal Erosion Phase II (2014-2020)” by Romanian Waters (Apele Romane).<\/p>\n
The project’s main objective is to protect the coastal area of the Romanian Black Sea from the effects of erosion and to reduce damage to the population through extensive rehabilitation and protection works of the shoreline, adjacent lands, and terrestrial and marine ecosystems.<\/p>\n
The financing contract has a total value of 3,805,641,721.67 RON, of which the EU co-financing value is 2,722,170,915.77 RON. It contributes to achieving specific objective 5.1: Reducing the effects and damage to the population caused by natural phenomena associated with the main risks accentuated by climate change, primarily floods and coastal erosion.<\/p>\n
According to project manager Nicusor Buzgaru, there are 11 lots remaining to be completed.<\/p>\n
“In the second stage, we proposed to execute the works in two phases. The first phase is already contracted and is in various stages of execution. Stage I consists of the Edighiol and Periboina sluices, Mamaia, Tomis, the Constanta Casino area, Agigea, with cliff consolidation up to Eforie and continuing from Belona to the south. In the second stage, the areas will be Costinesti, Olimp, Jupiter \u2013 Neptun, Balta Mangalia-Venus- Aurora, Mangalia \u2013 Saturn, and 2 Mai, where the project concludes,” stated Nicusor Buzgaru.<\/p>\n
