Solutions Sought for the Costine\u0219ti Cliff<\/p>\n
Currently, the Costine\u0219ti cliff poses a significant hazard to tourists due to its advanced state of degradation.<\/p>\n
To facilitate the restoration of the cliff, one proposed solution is to decouple it from the beach widening project, according to Mugurel C\u0103lin, an advisor to the Costine\u0219ti City Hall, despite the additional costs this would entail. The situation falls under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Waters (Apele Rom\u00e2ne) authorities, as the local municipality lacks the legal capacity to intervene.<\/p>\n
However, until the beaches are expanded, both Black Sea storms and the sea itself continue to erode the cliff, further exacerbating its deterioration.<\/p>\n
In addition to the damage caused to the cliff by hydrometeorological phenomena, nearby structures are also being affected.<\/p>\n
At present, access to beach areas where there is a risk of injury has been restricted by metal fencing installed by the Ministry of Environment in April of this year; this remains the only measure taken to date.<\/p>\n
To commence the redevelopment and reconstruction process, approval for the beach widening project is expected toward the end of the year.<\/p>\n
According to the Romanian Waters authority, the Costine\u0219ti cliff is included in the “Reduction of Coastal Erosion Phase II (2014-2020)” project.<\/p>\n
