George Copos Sees Strong Profits from His Hotel Portfolio<\/p>\n
ANA Hotels, one of the largest hotel companies on the local market, which operates the Athenee Palace Hilton and Crowne Plaza in the capital, as well as hotels at the seaside and in Poiana Bra\u0219ov, will reach 91% of the revenue recorded in the reference year 2019 this year.<\/p>\n
The Ana Hotels group recorded revenues of 87 million RON last year, an increase of 70% compared to 2020, the most difficult year for tourism. For comparison, in the reference year 2019, the best year for tourism, Ana Hotels ranked first among hotel companies nationwide, with a turnover of 167 million RON.<\/p>\n
The five-star Ath\u00e9n\u00e9\u00e9 Palace Hilton hotel in the capital is undergoing a complete renovation process; for seven months, it operated with 132 rooms compared to 283 rooms.<\/p>\n
From January 1st, the historic building, dating back to 1914, will take on the InterContinental brand, a five-star brand of the InterContinental group, one of the largest hotel chains in the world.<\/p>\n
The investment in the hotel’s renovation is partially funded from own resources, with a portion of the money coming from a bank loan. The total investment amounts to 30-40 million EUR.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Athenee Palace Hilton and Crowne Plaza in Bucharest, George Copos also controls the Sport, Bradul, and Poiana hotels in Poiana Bra\u0219ov. The hotel company also owns the Europa Hotel along with the ANA Aslan Health Spa center in Eforie Nord. The businessman says he plans to fully renovate both the Europa hotel in Eforie Nord and the Sportul hotel in Poiana Bra\u0219ov.<\/p>\n
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, ANA Hotels’ business decreased by 67% to just 55 million RON, and losses amounted to 19 million RON, compared to the previous year’s profit.<\/p>\n
George Copos entered the hotel business over 20 years ago when he bought the Sport, Poiana, and Bradul hotels in Poiana Bra\u0219ov and the former Flora hotel, now the Crowne Plaza in Bucharest. The businessman later purchased the building where the Athenee Palace Hilton hotel operates.<\/p>\n
