The former Alexeni military airfield, in Ialomi\u021ba County, will be transformed through an investment of 400 million EUR.<\/p>\n<p>The County Council announced that it has signed the concession contract for this project. The airport will be built by a consortium consisting of Avant Airports SRL from T\u00e2rgu Mure\u0219 and Automagistral-Pivden LLC from Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Alexeni Airport will become the first private airport in Romania, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and high-quality airport services. Located just 66 km from Bucharest, it will be strategically positioned to handle a significant portion of cargo and low-cost traffic, which currently overwhelms Otopeni Airport,&#8221; the County Council added.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the two cargo and passenger terminals, the investors plan to build a hotel, a train station in collaboration with CFR, leisure areas, conference centers, a photovoltaic park of at least 40 MW (an investment of approximately 30 million EUR), and a waste management and recycling system.<\/p>\n<p>Alexeni Airfield was built in 1954 on a 197.8 ha site as an aviation base for airspace protection of Bucharest and its surroundings. It was notable for having the widest concrete runway in the country \u2013 80 m, and was home to Romania&#8217;s first and only helicopter regiment for 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>The military aviation base was abandoned in March-April 2001.
