The measure, announced by Transport Minister Ciprian Șerban, unblocks a critical administrative step for the project that will provide a direct underground rail link between Bucharest and Henri Coandă International Airport.

The land covered by the normative act will become part of the public domain of the state, and will be used exclusively for public utility works of national interest. According to the official, this decision is necessary to speed up the project, which has been delayed in recent years due to administrative procedures and land issues. Magistrala 6 is designed to provide a modern alternative to the heavy road traffic on the DN1, connecting the center of the capital with the northern area and the country’s main airport. The project is financed by a mix of European and state budget funds, with Metrorex as the beneficiary of the investment.

Line 6 will have a total length of more than 14 kilometers and will comprise 12 stations, divided into two sections. The South section, with a length of 6.6 kilometers, includes the stations 1 Mai, Pajura, Expoziției, Piața Montreal, Băneasa Station, Băneasa Airport and Tokyo. The North section continues the route with the stations Washington, Paris, Bruxelles, Otopeni, Brătianu and Aeroport Otopeni. Once completed, the line will serve the city’s residents as well as the millions of passengers who pass through Otopeni Airport every year, helping to reduce pollution and travel times.

As for the state of execution, Metrorex reported in the January site log that the wall of the future Băneasa station has been pierced. Based on the current pace of excavation, estimates indicate that the tunnel should reach the Montreal Square area (Casa Presei) in June, the Exhibition area in November, and the completion of excavation at 1 Mai station is expected in August 2027. Work is currently ongoing on the section between Otopeni Airport (Tokyo) and the existing 1 Mai station.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Romanian Government approved on Thursday a decision initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure that allows the transfer of four plots of land essential for the continuation of works on the 6 subway line.
