The announcement was made at the congress of the International Federation of Travel Journalists and Travel Writers (FIJET), which took place in Morocco. The award recognizes the city&#8217;s increased international visibility and the development of the local tourism sector.  <\/p>\n<p>Awarded since 1970, the &#8220;Golden Apple&#8221; trophy is given by FIJET to cities, organizations or personalities with a significant contribution to the promotion and development of tourism. The winners are selected by a jury of federation members on the basis of nominations and votes cast. The decision to reward Iasi was motivated by the accelerated development of local tourism and the city&#8217;s constant presence in the rankings of emerging tourist destinations. The municipality&#8217;s candidacy was supported by the Tourism Press Club &#8211; FIJET Romania.   <\/p>\n<p>The International Federation of Journalists and Travel Writers, founded in Paris in 1954, is one of the oldest global media organizations, bringing together over 30 national associations.
