These developments are strategic, aimed at transforming the airport into a regional hub capable of serving neighboring counties, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, and increasing its attractiveness to new airline operators through major infrastructure investments such as a new terminal and an advanced landing system.

AnimaWings inaugurated on October 1, 2025 the regular flights Suceava – Bucharest, the first flight with 66 passengers on board. At the same time, Wizz Air resumed, after a break of more than three years, the direct flight to Vienna, with a first flight with 161 passengers. Wizz Air’s expansion to Suceava will continue in December 2025, when the airline will reopen its operational base with two aircraft. The move will bring eight new routes to key European destinations Brussels Charleroi, Venice, Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Birmingham, Larnaca and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden. In addition, from January 2026, flight frequencies to Dortmund will increase from three to four weekly flights. However, the route to Vienna is temporary, given Wizz Air’s decision to close its base in the Austrian capital. The president of Suceava County Council, Gheorghe Șoldan, confirmed that discussions are already underway to introduce an alternative destination, with the route to Vienna expected to be available by March 2026. These operational developments are supported by a substantial investment program. The central project is the construction of a new 10 thousand square meter terminal, almost three times larger than the current one. Another strategic investment concerns the modernization of the Instrument Landing System (ILS), which, once completed by the end of the year, will make Suceava the second airport in the country capable of operating in dense fog conditions. The modernization plan also includes the rehabilitation of the embarkation-debarkation apron and the construction of a 4.78 km link road with the Burdujeni district to improve access. Responding to public demand for routes to Spain, France or Portugal, Șoldan made it clear that the decisions belong exclusively to the airlines, which base their strategy on profitability. “Our role is to make the airport attractive enough for airline operators, and the results are starting to show,” he said.

Suceava International Airport is going through a period of accelerated expansion, marked by the launch of new routes operated by AnimaWings and Wizz Air and by a large modernization program.
