The event is particularly important as it comes in a year in which Moldova has consolidated its status as a relevant player on the world stage, hosting the World Congress of Vine and Wine and registering a significant increase in exports, both in volume and value. Thus, the celebration reflects the sector’s transition from a volume producer to one focused on quality, international recognition and the development of wine tourism as a growth driver.

The 24th edition of the National Wine Day turned the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau into a center of Moldovan viticulture, bringing together over 100 producers under the slogan “Our amazingly good wine”. On 4 and 5 October, visitors had access to tastings of collectors’ and limited-edition wines, masterclasses by certified sommeliers from the “Wine School” and a cultural program with a traditional touch. The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony honoring excellence in the field. The Grand Prize was awarded to the “CRICOVA” S.A. Wine Combine, an industry landmark. This year’s edition also brought two new distinctions, designed to reflect the dynamics of the sector: the Wine Maker’s Trophy, won by DIVUS Winery to encourage small producers, and the Distillate Maker’s Trophy, awarded to Bardar Winery. Other winners included Ion Borta from Cricova, named the most skillful oenologist, and Vasile Dodon from Călărași Divin SRL, recognized as the best wine grower. Andrian Digolean, secretary of state at the agriculture ministry, stressed that the diversification of the awards is intended to recognize the contribution of all players in the industry, from established companies to new entrepreneurs.

The event is part of a favorable international context for the Republic of Moldova, which in June hosted for the first time the World Congress of Wine and Vine, bringing together experts from 51 member states of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. This success, together with the organization of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, has strengthened the country’s image on the global stage. The promotion strategy is also supported by concrete initiatives, such as the opening of a permanent “Wine of Moldova” stand in the “Eugen Doga” International Airport – Chisinau, designed to offer tourists a first contact with local wines. Economic performance confirms this upward trend. Over the last year, Moldovan wine exports have grown by almost 20% in volume and 25% in value, totaling more than 120 million liters and generating revenues of around €177 million. Although Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic remain the main markets, there has been an expansion in high value-added markets such as the USA, China and Japan, where the average price for a bottle of Moldovan wine is almost double the international average. This indicator signals a strategic repositioning of the industry towards the premium segment. Agriculture Minister Ludmila Catlabuga reaffirmed the government’s support for the sector through policies to promote and capitalize on local varieties, stressing that wine represents both tradition and future for the national economy.

The National Wine Day 2025, held in Chisinau, marks a high point for the wine industry in the Republic of Moldova, celebrating not only a cultural heritage but also a remarkable economic performance.
