Transportation and tourism benefited directly, with mixed evolutions between Constanța and Tulcea counties.

The analysis is conducted by Clever News Center with data from the Termene AI platform.

In 2024, for the first time since its official opening on July 6, 2023, the Danube Bridge over the Danube at Brăila was fully operational throughout the year, connecting Dobrogea more efficiently with the rest of the country. This strategic infrastructure has made a visible contribution to boosting economic activity in Constanța and Tulcea counties, facilitating the transportation of goods, reducing logistical costs and encouraging labor mobility. The financial data published by ANAF already reflect this positive impact.

For now, by April 29, 5,622 companies in Dobrogea have declared their balance sheets for 2024, with a cumulative turnover of 10.41 bn. RON, up 16.05% compared to 2023. This sustained development is accompanied by an increase in the number of employees by 3.43%, reaching 22,418, and an increase in profit by 8.94%, up to 1.34 mln. RON.

To highlight whether the bridge is the Danube has had a positive impact at a micro level as well, we looked at the businesses that benefit most from the infrastructure work. These are tourism and transportation.

The transport sector, directly influenced by the new bridge, recorded in Dobrogea an increase in turnover by 17.96% and employees by 7.99%, although profit fell by almost 20%, suggesting pressure on profit margins, probably due to increased labor costs for last year, as explained by representatives of companies in the county.

In Constanta, the transportation sector had a similar evolution: 17.23% growth in business and 8.53% in employees, but a slight decrease in profit of 2.47%.

Tourism in the region offers an interesting contrast. Although turnover has increased in Dobrogea by 15.56% in Dobrogea and by 16.19% in Constanța county, the number of employees has decreased (by 5.02% in Dobrogea and 5.96% in Constanța) and profitability has deteriorated – a 24.19% decrease in Dobrogea and possibly a spectacular increase in Constanța of over 500%, if the figure is correct. This trend suggests a reconfiguration of the hospitality industry, with a focus on efficiency and higher value services, but also a possible heightened seasonality.

At county level, Constanța was the economic engine of the region, with an 18% increase in turnover and a spectacular jump in profit of 80.19%, probably supported by port and industrial development. In contrast, Tulcea had a more moderate pace, with only a 2.63% increase in business, but a 9.6% increase in employees, a sign that it is in a phase of expansion of production capacity.

Financial data for Tulcea and Constanța (Dobrogea) counties show that 5,622 companies have their balance sheets for the year 2024 published by the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF).

Turnover: 10.41 bn.
