Vlad Tepes’ fortress in Poenari was reopened for visitors on Monday after extensive conservation and restoration works.<\/p>\n
The fortress, located on the administrative territory of Arefu commune, is built on a mountain peak, at the entrance of Cheile Arge\u0219ului, near DN 7C – Transf\u0103g\u0103r\u0103\u0219an, the access for tourists is made through 1,480 steps arranged on the slope, through the forest. The fortification was originally built in the 14th century, being consolidated and enlarged during the reign of Vlad \u021aepe\u0219. <\/p>\n
The reopening event started with a unique artistic moment, a monologue by actor Puiu M\u0103rgescu from the ”Alexandru Davila” Theater, who played Vlad the Emperor, together with beautiful ladies dressed in period costumes.<\/p>\n
The conservation and restoration work took three years, during which time the monument could not be visited.<\/p>\n
The project ”Preservation and Consolidation of the Poenari Arge\u0219 Fortress” has received non-reimbursable funding under Priority Axis 5 – Improvement of the urban environment and conservation, protection and sustainable valorization of cultural heritage. The total value of the financing contract was over 25 million RON, of which 9.647.565 RON is the total amount of public grant and 16.021.201,29 RON is the beneficiary’s contribution. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
