Romania ranks first as a holiday destination chosen in 2020 by Romanian tourists

In the ranking of Romanians' favorite destinations in 2020 made by eSky, Romania ranked first with 55% of the total number of bookings, followed by Great Britain with 15% of total bookings and Germany with 8%, Italy with 6%, Spain and France by 4%.

Comparing the period 2020 with that of 2019, bookings in Romania in other countries decreased by 33%, a much lower percentage than anticipated by the industry, shows the online travel agency eSky, which made an analysis of the trends in 2020.

Thus, in the top of the favorite destinations of Romanians in a pandemic year, Romania ranked first with 55% of the total number of bookings, followed by Great Britain with 15% of the total number of bookings, Germany - 8%, followed by Italy - 6%, Spain and France with 4% and Belgium with 2%.

The company's representatives specified that, if in the past years, London was the favorite city of tourists, in 2020, the city of Bucharest would be on the first place with 55% of the reservations, being followed by London - 17% and Iasi with 7%. As preferences, the cities were followed by Cluj, Timisoara, Bacau, Paris and Brussels.

The company's representatives specified that, during the pandemic, a new trend called "travel bubble" was born, which consists of traveling abroad, in neighboring countries and relatively close to the traveler's country.

In 2020, intercontinental travel decreased by 76% and intra-continental travel by 52%.

The number of travel insurance sold in 2020 was lower than in 2019, but it is worth noting that the number of booked travel insurance bookings has increased.
