The Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment (MEEMA) proposes a 100% guarantee of vouchers offered to tourists as an alternative to reimbursement, related to trips canceled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement from the institution.

The draft normative act provides for the guarantee by the Romanian state in 100% of the vouchers offered to tourists by travel agencies and tourist structures with accommodation functions, as an alternative to cash refunds for canceled trips, in case of insolvency of voucher issuers.

Equally, it is desired to cover the guarantee premiums due by the beneficiaries of the state aid scheme for guaranteeing vouchers offered to tourists, as an alternative to reimbursements for tourist packages and single travel services, canceled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two state aid schemes will have a limited duration, until 31 December 2020. Therefore, only vouchers issued up to this date will be guaranteed, regardless of their validity. The proposed support measures will only enter into force after approval by the European Commission.
