The Government has approved the draft law on the reorganization of the State Enterprise “Calea Ferată din Moldova” (CFM) by converting it into a joint-stock company, a step aimed at aligning the railway system with European standards. The measure will enable the implementation of the Railway Transport Code and separate infrastructure management from the operations of transport carriers, reports MOLDPRES.
Under the new legislation, the joint-stock company “CFM-Infra” will be established, an entity that will take over CFM’s assets, rights, and obligations to operate as the infrastructure manager. The Public Property Agency will coordinate the restructuring process, overseeing inventory taking, asset valuation, and the determination of the share capital structure. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, the initiative establishes a special legal regime ensuring the protection of creditors and employees, as well as the financial measures necessary for the transition. A core principle of the reform is maintaining the uninterrupted delivery of public transport services and the functionality of critical infrastructure. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that separating passenger services from infrastructure management is a beneficial international practice. Following approval by the Executive, the draft bill has been submitted to Parliament for review and adoption.
